TWP 100 Series Stain

TWP 100 Series Pro deck stain gallon and 5 gallon pail

The dealer's take on TWP 100 Pro-Series

TWP 100 is a favorite of deck contractors and homeowners alike. It is an oil-based, penetrating wood preservative: it soaks into the boards instead of laying a skin on top, so there is nothing to peel when it weathers. When it is time to re-coat, you clean the wood and put more on - no stripping, no sanding off flaking film.

What TWP 100 protects against

Wood on a deck fails for four reasons: it rots, it soaks up water and cracks, the sun grays and breaks down the surface fibers, and mold and mildew stain it black and green. TWP 100 is built to fight all four at once. It is an EPA-registered wood preservative, it repels water so boards don't swell and split, it carries UV absorbers in the tinted colors, and it contains mildewcides to keep the surface clean longer.

How we tell customers to apply it

  1. Prep. Start with clean, dry wood. Weathered or dirty boards should be cleaned and brightened first with Restore-A-Deck.
  2. First coat. Brush, pad or spray it on so the wood takes all it can absorb.
  3. Second coat, wet on wet. On deck floors, go back over the first coat while it is still wet. If the first coat soaked in fast, thin the second one slightly so it keeps penetrating instead of sitting on top.
  4. Vertical surfaces. Railings, siding and fences usually need only one coat.

Applied this way on properly prepared wood, you can expect about three to five years on vertical surfaces - longer if the wood has weathered for a couple of years before its first coat. Deck floors see more traffic and sun, and they fade evenly rather than blotching, so a maintenance coat is simple.

Michigan & Ohio deck contractors: we buy TWP by the truckload, which lets us offer pallets of 5 gallon Cedartone 101 at prices paint stores can't match. Pallet pricing is pick-up only from our Michigan warehouse - contact our office for a quote.

A few things worth knowing

  • Wet stain and used rags are extremely flammable. Lay rags flat outside to dry or keep them in a sealed metal can with water.
  • TWP 100 has been rated at the top of transparent stains by leading consumer magazines.
  • If you live in a VOC area, TWP 1500 is the low VOC version, in very close colors.
  • TWP® is a registered trademark of Amteco; the product is made by Gemini Coatings. The Stain Depot is a dealer, not the manufacturer.

Our warehouse is about 20 minutes from the bridge to Canada.

TWP 100 questions we hear every week

How many gallons of TWP 100 will my deck take?

Plan on roughly 150-200 sq. ft. per gallon for the first coat and 200-300 sq. ft. for the second. With two coats applied wet on wet, most decks work out to about 125-150 sq. ft. per gallon.

When can I use the deck again?

Give it 12-36 hours to dry at around 70°F, stay off it for 24 hours, and wait 3 days before the patio furniture goes back.

Why was my TWP 100 order canceled?

TWP 100 is a 550 VOC stain, so it cannot be shipped into VOC-regulated areas: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Northern Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Maricopa County, Arizona. Orders to those areas are canceled with a $5 fee - order TWP 1500 instead.

Do the gray colors cost more?

Yes. Cape Cod Gray 105 and Prairie Gray 106 are semi-transparent and are priced slightly higher than the six transparent tones.
